... I’d like to share my first TV experience with you ...
Yesterday my investment in Presenting Magically really paid back big time. Brought in as a Linguistics Expert to analyse the Prime Minister's response to the Hutton Report, I did a primetime (5am) unscripted live interview on Sky News. Coming on the back of the Tuition Fees vote, this was a big story, the public and media interest was intense with an estimated UK audience was 600k, worldwide 6000k.
I had never even been to a TV studio before yesterday, let alone done a live interview so my stuff was up! The interview was conducted remotely, so I was instructed to talk direct to camera and although I couldn’t see the interviewer I was expected to behave as if I could. As soon as the producer gave me the ’30 second countdown’ the relaxation, rapport and presentation skills taught by David automatically kicked in I went into hakalau, projected my energy through the camera to become one with the audience and delivered my observations in a calm, clear and concise manner.
Afterwards a number of people in the studio commented on how relaxed and natural I looked and were amazed that I was a ‘first timer’. This for me was a demonstration that whatever the size or location of your audience you can project and connect with your audience, using the techniques taught on Presenting Magically. And knowing that ‘feedback is a precious gift’ I’ll be going through the video in detail so that next time will be even better!
