Well - having done the Coaching Skills course last weekend ... I had my first meeting with a potential client today and I came out having successfully achieved my intention, rather than the goal I had in mind!
Those on the course will know what I mean. So - I'm at cause ..... What could I do differently next time ... - Know that talking to people about Coaching does not work and I would be better served to give them the experience. [I should have started and controlled the early part of the conversation, rather than allowing it to get off-track - maybe that's what happens when talking to a friend on this stuff - could have meant he would be a difficult client if I had taken him on, or simply that I needed to learn this lesson immediately] - I knew this going in - and got carried away in the discussion about various things - then realising I had talked around the subject and not given him the example/experience when he said he couldn't afford it. oops! My 'intention' had been a minimum of getting to work with him on another level in his business [something we had discussed before] and gain access to the large database of SME's he has to approach to be a client of mine. We will work together on this. There may be a 'barter' element to what I get out of him and if that works out - I am OK with that. Glad that I learnt this lesson, first visit out - rather than many later on. In achieving this intention - I am aware that I have had chances to get this far with him in the past and had not done so - hence I have already got further than previously ..... so that is a WIN for me too! Is it OK to align yourself with people who have resources to help you get where you want to go ...... I believe so! Another meeting booked for next Monday ... glad I have this knowledge going in to that one! 'Next' ...... ! Nig Reply to this Post |
